On January 18, 1943 took off at at 9:45am from 7-Mile Drome near Port Moresby to conduct an aerial reconnaissance over the north coast of New Guinea coast from Buna to Gona. No reports were ever received from this aircraft after take-off. When it failed to return it was declared Missing In Action (MIA).

Contrary to the assertion that the aircraft from the Frederick German photo was in the 345th Bomb Group, the fact is it hasn't been converted to a strafer at this point. The aircraft was eventually transferred to the 345th Bomb Group as a strafer.
